Screen Panel Replacement (Cracked / Lines / Ink Damage) - MacBook Air Retina 13" A2681 M2 (2022)

Screen Panel Replacement (Cracked / Lines / Ink Damage) - MacBook Air Retina 13" A2681 M2 (2022)

  • £350.00

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THE BELOW DESCRIPTION BEFORE BOOKING, WE ARE FITTING A GENUINE SCREEN PANEL (NOT INCLUDING LID)!

With this repair, we are replacing your MacBook Air screen panel, reusing your original aluminium lid. This will resolve issues with lines, cracks, ink marks and general damage to the screen. The glass and picture on these models are one fused unit, so any issues with either will be resolved in this service. We will also replace the bottom glass strip underneath the screen during the repair at no additional charge.

If the sides or corners of your aluminium lid are bent or dented in (chips in the sides or small dents in the flat surface of the lid are fine), or the lid is curved out of shape, it is likely we will not be able to reuse your original aluminium lid. Please check all sides of the lid when closed, to make sure the gap between the top and bottom halves are equal on all sides. If liquid has leaked inside the screen itself causing glowing watermarks behind the screen, and the screen is otherwise fully functional, this service won't resolve your issue! If unsure about damage to the lid, please contact us before booking, since there is a non-refundable charge to cover postage and our time if booked with lid or backlight sheet damage, if not proceeding with the repair.

Most repair shops replace the full assembly (screen with lid, which will be 3rd party unless you are going directly through Apple or an Apple authorised location), so why do we do it this way, which is a lot more complicated? In short, it keeps everything original, retains certain features which are lost by replacing the full assembly on some models (True Tone on Apple Silicon models, for example) and is the best quality option due to the issues with new lid assemblies available outside of Apple, whilst being a lot cheaper than the new lid assemblies found directly through Apple. All new full lid assemblies purchased outside of Apple, which are being offered for cheaper than Apple, are 3rd party assembled and have a lot of quality issues due to non-original parts being used (hinges, backlight sheets, plastic bottom strip instead of glass, etc).

We have a detailed list of advantages and disadvantages below;

Advantages

  • Significantly cheaper than going directly through Apple for the full lid assembly.
  • Genuine screen panel, manufactured by LG or Sharp (Apple themselves do not manufacture the screen panels, as many people believe).
  • Same brightness as the original. 3rd party lid replacements are not as bright, since the companies manufacturing these use cheaper 3rd party backlight sheets, which are not as bright. We reuse the original backlight sheets, retaining the original brightness.
  • True Tone functionality is kept, which is often missing on lower quality 3rd party lid assemblies, and is always missing when swapping the full lid on late 2020 and newer models. We keep this since we keep the original camera/ambient light sensor, which is paired to the logic board on newer models.
  • Original hinges are kept. 3rd party lid assemblies use cheap knock offs, which usually fail within a few months, causing major wobbling or cases where the screen will not stay up.
  • On 14” 2021 and newer models, it is currently impossible to swap the whole lid assembly without coloured bars appearing along the top of the screen, due to Apple pairing the screen to the logic board (unless replacing this through Apple direct, for a significantly higher cost). Us replacing the screen panel alone, transferring the chips containing the calibration/programming data from the old screen panel to the new one means this will be fully functioning without bars, after the repair. We do not charge extra for this.
  • On 16” 2021 and newer models, when replacing the whole lid assembly, the mini-LED board will not light evenly when the brightness is around the midway point, due to mismatching programming between the new screen and the logic board. This is a minor issue, where only some of the LEDs briefly light the screen. We can resolve this by transferring the ICs containing programming/calibration from the old screen panel to the new panel for an optional additional cost, since it is a minor issue most customers will not notice.
  • This is less wasteful compared to disposing of a full aluminium lid; we reuse the original lid as long as it can be kept, meaning only the screen is recycled.

Disadvantages

  • These screen assemblies are originally assembled in an extremely expensive dust-free factory by robots. Due to this, there is a possibility of dust being visible through the new screen, which can be between the screen panel and the backlight sheets. We have methods to reduce the risk of this, but there is always a possibility; dust is mainly only visible if looking for it, on a pale or white screen, and the average user will not normally notice this, especially since most MacBooks we receive have fingerprints and dirt covering the screen anyway!
  • If the aluminium lid is dented in, or curved out of shape, we usually can’t replace just the screen panel. We can sometimes correct bends in the lid (not usually dents in the side/corners), but would require you to contact us with pictures first.
  • More complicated compared to replacing the full lid assembly, but the results are better compared to 3rd party lid assemblies.
